Head of Faculty: Miss Anderson

Staff: Miss Miller, Mr Archer, Miss Jones

Introduction and ethos of subject

As a department, the Art team is passionate about creating a positive, exciting and inclusive environment which encourages all students to thrive.

With staff having a variety of creative backgrounds we are able to offer an engaging and enriching curriculum.  Art as a subject allows students the freedom to develop a creative identity and encourages the development of skills such as creative thinking, motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness.

Our focus in KS3 is on nurturing the development of existing skills that students have already learnt at primary school and developing them into those that are needed for GCSE study. This includes researching a range of topics, analysing the work of artists, drawing, painting and colour mixing. We also introduce students to a range of new materials and techniques such as clay, collage and tonal drawings.

If you hear a voice within you say, ‘You cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced
