The principle aims of the Physical Education Department at Worle School are: -
|Year||Hours per week|
In addition to this, GCSE and OCR examination courses in Physical Education are offered in Years 9, 10 and 11, which add a further 3 hours week.
The Curriculum provides a balanced programme, which includes all major games as well as athletics, gymnastics, dance, trampolining and health related exercise.
At Key Stage 3 the major focus is upon the development of skills, whilst at Key Stage 4, students develop their skills in chosen activities and are given the opportunity to gain accreditation in certain activities on a coaching or a performing level, through the Level one Sports Leaders’ Awards. Year 11 students have an opportunity to use our @Worle gym facility within their PE programme.
Extra-Curricular activities are a very important part of Worle's Physical Education programme. We offer a wide selection of activities both before and after school.
Representative teams are offered in at least eight sports and equally for boys and girls. Many of our students, past and present, have represented the District and the County and there is a strong tradition of success in certain sports in National competition.
Students who are committed to their sport and regularly represent the school team are rewarded with our sports colours badges and have their name engraved on our sports colours board. Also those who go above and beyond in PE and who are committed to 3 sports over 3 years, will be awarded with our prestigious yellow sports ties.
Inter-House competitions take place in at least three sports throughout the year where the groups compete for Housepoints and the all important Inter-House Sports Cup.
