The Learning Resource Centre, which is situated centrally in the school, is busy, well used and active. The environment is light and airy and the atmosphere is friendly.
The LRC has a dedicated and experienced Librarian and is open between 8am and 4.10pm including break and lunch time. It is available to all students to encourage reading for pleasure and to support independent learning.
We have over 12,000 books plus magazines and newspapers. There are also reference and staff collections.
There is a fully networked ICT suite housing 16 computers with internet access. Printing facilities for coursework etc are also available.
The LRC works closely with departments, not only with the provision of basic resources but also in the development of active teaching and learning styles. LRC staff are experienced in the joint development, resourcing, team teaching and evaluation of units of work and are heavily involved in various projects where multi-media resources are an integral part of the course.
As well as timetabled lessons, students visit individually or in small groups from lessons as necessary.
During the year various literacy events take place, such as Book Fairs ,shadowing groups and Book Swops. A book club is also run in the LRC during selected lunchtimes for keen readers.
Students are welcome to come and read, borrow or return books, do homework, find information and use the computers. The Librarian and assistant librarian will be there to help you. You can borrow two books at a time. Books are normally issued for three weeks and can be renewed if more time is needed.
From time to time students will come during lesson time to work in the LRC on a specific task or read.
Food, drink and chewing gum must not be consumed in the Resource Centre.
No mobile phones are to be used in the resource Centre during the school day.
